SUMMARY:Run For A Better Life 5K
DESCRIPTION:Run Hope Work is excited to host our annual Run For A Better Life 5K on October 19th. Racers will take on the fast\, flat\, out-and-back course in Anacostia Park starting at the Roller Skating Pavilion. To ensure fun for the whole family\, we also have a 1 Mile Fun Run and 400 meter Kids Run that are free for kids ages 17 and under! The 5K goes off at 8:30 am and the Fun Run and Kids Run start at approximately 9:30. \nRun Hope Work\, founded in 2015\, is a DC nonprofit that helps local young adults take control of their future through a program that includes running\, meditation/mindfulness\, and industry-certified workforce training. \nOur annual race raises awareness about our mission and funds to support our program.  Entry fees and donations allow Run Hope Work to get more DC youth off the streets\, acquire skills\, and earn long-term employment. Ultimately\, we’re helping empower our community to end the cycle of poverty and violence. \nThe race is dedicated to Run Hope Work’s founder\, Jose Ortiz\, who died in a bike accident in April 2023. Run Hope Work is the manifestation of Jose’s formula for self and community transformation. Jose overcame homelessness\, poverty\, and addiction to become a beloved entrepreneur\, husband\, father\, and athlete. He was a mentor to Run Hope Work participants as well an inspiration to friends\, colleagues and his family. Our annual 5K race was one of Jose’s favorite activities; we will miss his infectious smile and enthusiastic presence\, but we honor his legacy by continuing our work to support DC’s youth. \nPlease join us! Boyd was a native Washingtonian who spent her 97 years of life dedicated to educational and humanitarian pursuits for children. Ms. Boyd was an incorporator and founding member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. She also was a charter member of the Xi Omega Chapter. \nEstablished in 1988\, PIEF is a 501(c)(3) organization whose primary mission is to provide scholarships to deserving and exemplary college-bound high school seniors and continuing college students in the District of Columbia. DESCRIPTION:Run Hope Work is excited to bring forth our Run For A Better Life 5K on June 26 at 8:00am. Racers will take on the fast\, flat\, out and back 5K course on the C&O Tow Path starting at Fletcher’s Cove and initially running upstream. Run Hope Work is a DC based nonprofit organization that helps local youth and adult residents take control of their futures through a holistic work readiness training program. The individuals we aim to uplift are often returning citizens\, young adults dealing with housing instability in communities impacted by gun violence.  Run Hope Work implements a running component\, a meditation curriculum and workforce training to gain certifications in the construction trades. We take people who are ready to work and make them “Work Ready”.  \n  \nWe are running to raise awareness about our mission and to fundraise for our Post Covid Replacement Strategy.  Funds raised through this 5K will allow Run Hope Work to get more DC youth off the streets\, acquire skills and get them into respectable jobs. We’re helping empower our community with hopes to end the cycle of poverty and violence. Please join us! DESCRIPTION:The Friends Collective will host its annual 5K on May 15\, 8:00am in scenic Rock Creek Park. The 5K begins with a steep\, challenging hill down Kennedy Street NW and then follows Beach Drive through Rock Creek Park. All runners (virtual and in person) will receive a medal. To enhance your race experience and show additional support\, runners can also purchase an official Friends Collective 5K t-shirt. \nLocation \nThe start and finish line are behind the Fitzgerald Tennis Center at 16th and Kennedy Street NW.  The address is 1600 Kennedy Street NW\, Washington\, DC 20011. \nRace Day Parking \nPlease use Colorado Ave (from 16th St) to park at Grove 24/ Tennis Center.
