Join alumni, friends, and supporters of Oakwood University for the Oakwood University 5K, a celebration of health, heritage, and purpose. Set against the beautiful backdrop of Washington, DC’s iconic Hains Point, this fast, flat, and scenic out-and-back course offers stunning views of the Potomac River and is perfect for runners and walkers of all levels.
Founded in 1896 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church to educate newly freed African Americans in the South, Oakwood University has long stood as a beacon of academic excellence, Christian education, and social advancement. Located in Huntsville, Alabama, this historically Black institution continues to live out its motto: “Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve.”
Whether you’re racing to set a new PR or strolling in support of Oakwood University and its enduring mission, the Oakwood University 5K invites you to move with purpose and celebrate a legacy that continues to inspire generations. Your participation helps support scholarships, campus initiatives, and the next generation of Oakwood leaders who are being equipped to serve God and humanity.

Race Day Check-In
Participant check-in runs from 7:15 am to 8:00 am. The Oakwood University 5K begins at 8:00 am.
